End of year message from pastor brian

Dear Chapel of Change;
I share this to express my heart as we prepare to start a new year.
It’s been a rough year.  I remember when the reality of the pandemic first hit me back in March. I was driving on Alondra Blvd. It felt so eerie and quite.  Supplies at stores where out of stock. People fighting in lines. I was thinking, “This can’t be happening in the USA?” But I was wrong.
As a church family, the pandemic took a lot from us. Our beloved brothers David and Gorgonio passed from complications of COVID. Families got sick and had to isolate (isolation is no joke – I spent years in a small cell). People lost their jobs. We got kicked out of our church buildings. Fear bombarded us.  We’re all suffering from fatigue.  Even with outdoor services, about 400 people have not come back to church.
With this back drop, I want to thank several groups of people for their partnership in the Gospel.  I thank our pastors for staying on the frontlines. I thank our volunteers for serving a long side our pastors. It’s been a joy to see you serve Christ during this crisis. Every crisis makes new heroes and you all have shown the courage of Christ in the face of adversity.
I thank those who continued worshipping with us either outdoors or online. You all rallied with us during this pandemic.  You stayed connected. This pandemic took a lot from us but it didn’t take our worship.
I thank you all for your faithful financial support during this crisis. Because of your giving, our church is not just surviving, but thriving. We are still evangelizing parks and feeding tons of people. We are still teaching kids about Jesus. And we are still reaching over 500 people in our outdoor worship services.
Let me encourage you with this passage:
Phil. 3: 13-14 – “Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
Let's demonstrate fierce focus (vs. 13 – “…one thing I do.”) Right now, we need to set our focus. Don’t run from 2021. Let's stare into this new year with faith and courage.
Let’s do what Jesus did in Luke 9:51: “Now it came to pass, when the time had come for Him to be received up, that He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem.” Jerusalem was the place of pain, but Jesus didn’t back down. He stared into Jerusalem. He charged toward Jerusalem.
Let's demonstrate fierce forgiveness (vs. 13 – “forgetting those things which are behind.”). Apostle Paul went through a lot. In 2 Corinthians 11, he described being physically and emotionally hurt. He talks about how people let him down.  But he knew the key to going into the next season is to forgive and let go of our hurts, hang ups and let downs.
We can’t take 2020 into 2021 and expect to be faithful and fruitful We all have been hurt this year. We all have been let down in some way. By God's grace, let us forgive and to let it go.
