The Last Days
We are living in the last of last days. In fact, we are called to the last of last days. What characterizes the last days? Let me share one marker.
There is a spirit of Anti-Christ Amongst Us. Apostle John writes in 1 John 2:18, “…it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Anti-Christ is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour.”
What is the goal of the spirit of the antichrist?
It minimizes Jesus - tries to take away from who Jesus is and what He deserves. Apostle John writes, “Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ?” (1John 2:22). Again he writes in 1John 4:3, “…every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist…”
Our purpose is to EXALT Jesus, to magnify Jesus . The spirit of the antichrist tries to minimize Jesus. Beware of churches that don’t ever talk about Jesus, that don’t sing about Jesus and celebrate Jesus! Beware of worship songs that don't center on Jesus. Beware of people who minimize Jesus. You have heard people say, "I believe in God, but not Jesus."
The spirit of the antichrist also seeks to replace Jesus. For years, I thought the prefix “anti” only meant “to be against.” Therefore, I just viewed antichrist as someone or something against Christ.
But there is a secondary meaning for the prefix “anti.” It means “in the place of" or "to replace."
The spirit of the antichrist tries to get us to put things in the place of Christ in our lives, tries to “replace” Christ in our lives with other things and other people.
Some of us put jobs in the place of Christ.
Some of us put relationships in the place of Christ.
Some of us put sports in the place of Christ.
Some of us put our kids in the place of Christ – kids make a terrible God.
You want to know what or who you are putting in the place of Christ in your life? Discover what you give most of your time, talent and treasure too. Trace that down and you will find your Christ.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, search our heart and help us to remove anything or anyone that is trying to take your place. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
